About This Website

There is great work being done in the U.S. around art and nature on prescription; however, I find myself frustrated that social prescribing programs often do not account for the greater context of current societal inequities. I have compiled these resources as a way to encourage future programs to fully appreciate what a comprehensive social prescribing program can be. I hope that some of my thoughts, questions, and resources will help you develop models for engaging community assets at large, work towards ameliorating community needs and achieve health equity.

This page is not intended to convince people of the need for social prescribing, but rather to promote best practices that will work for your community.

Hi, my name is Maria Kuge. I am currently based in Wisconsin and hold a master's degree in Arts in Medicine from the University of Florida. While at UF, I was exposed to the idea of social prescribing and felt convinced I had to be part of the movement. As a co-author of Arts on Prescription: A Field Guide for US Communities, I am a resource for social prescribers around the country.
